All Week
- Together We Achieve in Cedar Rapids need volunteers at the resource center Monday through Saturday.
- CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank in Iowa City needs help:
- Donate to the new Iowa City Tenants Union Rent Relief Fund (non means tested and 100% community funded) to provide rent and utility relief (including water, phone, and internet bills) to neighbors in need.
- Apply for a position as a part-time administrative coordinator for Inside Out Reentry Community.
- SIGN an open letter requesting the Iowa City School Board instate a mask mandate to apply to all schools in the district. The Iowa City mandate requires they be worn in Iowa City schools- but not all ICCSD schools are in Iowa City.
- DONATE TO South East Junior High’s new mental health center, The NESTT (Navigating Emotions and Stress Through Training), opening later this fall.
- The center will serve to support social-emotional growth and mental health, promote de-escalation and mindfulness and create a safe and welcoming space to help manage strong emotions.
- Donate to provide funds to help convince local school districts to challenge the mask mandate ban by covering potential fines and/or budget cuts.
- Texas schools are challenging their governor’s ban on mandates and we need to do the same. If this initiative is unsuccessful, all funds raised will be dispersed to PTO’s and other organizations in the Corridor working on ways to incentivize and increase mask-wearing in schools.
- DONATE to help the Iowa City Community Schools Districtwide Parents’ Organization print “Wearing is Caring” signage and provide three-layer masks and outdoor eating areas in schools.
- Contact President Biden via online form, the switchboard at 1-202-456-1414 or the comment line at 1-202-456-1111 and urge him to mandate masks in public schools through an executive order.
- Email to urge the Iowa City City Council to enact the changes to the Bias Based Policing Policy recommended by the Iowa City Community Police Review Board.
- This change would refocus police activity on public safety, changing the policy from “patrol in a proactive manner, to investigate suspicious persons and circumstances, and to actively enforce the laws” to “interfere with members of the public only when assistance is requested, or when there is an articulable and imminent risk to public safety”.
- See the full recommendations on pages 91-93
- Watch CPRB debate its passage
- If you prefer news coverage, read the story by KWWL.
- WATCH and READ the guide from Iowa City Catholic Worker and the Fund Excluded Workers Coalition and then take the Iowa City and Johnson County SURVEYS to tell them that our community’s share of ARP money goes to those who have not received federal stimulus money and need it the most. The surveys were written in a way that is biased against immigrant & refugee workers- the guide helps!
- Johnson County
- Iowa City – Closes at the end of the month.
- SIGN UP to volunteer with Iowa City Free Medical & Dental Clinic as a phlebotomist, pharmacist, or spanish interpreter by emailing Elisa or filling out the application.
Help CCAN This Week
Volunteer to weed, harvest, and/or water (and get free tomatoes) at our community garden at Chadek Park by emailing director@corridorcan.com or messaging the page. Volunteers take what they need for the week and excess is donated to local food security orgs for community distribution.
Mobile Community Clothing Closet Update
Order a Pizza Kit, Donate to the mobile closet
Order a Little Caesars at-home-pizza kit or cookie dough and $6 will go towards establishing a free mobile clothing closet to serve the Corridor!! You can also sign up to help us sell them via email.
Vehicle Update
Mobile Community Clothing Closet Update! We’re still looking for a vehicle and a reasonably-priced mechanic willing to look at a few motor homes that are under consideration. We haven’t decided on one yet, so please let us know if you are aware of any vehicles that would work well for this service.
A motorhome would be especially ideal as it would allow us to offer showers and carry cold water and snacks. A donation of a vehicle would mean we could cover customization and first-year operating expenses to start service immediately. A great deal on one would put us closer!
Have an idea for a Mobile Closet fundraiser?
We’re still brainstorming for more ideas for to help us cover the remaining clothing closet expenses. If you or your business are willing to sponsor this project, host a fundraising event for it, or donate an item or service for our auction, please message the page or email director@corridorcan.com.

Why The Mobile Clothing Closet Matters
The Mobile Clothing Closet will simultaneously address an unmet need for free clothing resources in the corridor and the high volume of textiles that enter our landfill every year, much of which we will be able to re-route to those in need. We already have two storage sheds full of donated clothing- we just need the truck!
