  • Volunteer to help us get the motorhome ready to serve as a Free Mobile Clothing Closet!  (Tue-Sun)
  • Together We Achieve in Cedar Rapids need volunteers at the resource center Monday through Saturday
  • CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank in Iowa City needs help Monday through Saturday.
  • Houses into Homes needs volunteers Monday through Friday.
  • Petition the Iowa legislature to repeal anti-voter sections of Senate Files 413 and 568, which were signed into law in 2021. Sign the League of Women Voters of Iowa’s petition.
  • Sign up to volunteer to provide support to incoming refugee and Afghan families by filling out Catherine McAuley Center’s interest survey.
  • Apply to volunteer with Domestic Violence Intervention Program.
  • Donate to The Institute of Aspiring Abolitionists, a new project created by the cofounder of the Humanize My Hoodie Movement, that will “provide political education for community members and practitioners to learn effective ways to improve relationships and reduce harm through courses, workshops, trainings, and coaching.” Learn more and back the Kickstarter.
  • Call Governor Reynolds at 515-281-5211, email her, and tell her that Iowa needs $20 million of ARP money to be diverted to victim
    services. Mention the following facts:
    • Violent crimes in Iowa have skyrocketed and gun related homicides are rising consistently in Iowa.
    • In the next two years, 28,000 fewer crime victims will receive services in Iowa.
    • Covid-19 pandemic increased need for services yet victim services are experiencing a 37% cut in federal funding.
    • See the following scripts from Iowa Domestic Violence Coalition, which can be adjusted for individuals as
      needed.
      • SAMPLE PHONE CALL TO GOVERNOR
(it’s okay and encouraged to leave a voice message!)
I am [name, organization, where you are from]. Our program provides support and services to crime victims in
[city/area of the state your program serves]. Due to budget cuts, fewer crime victims in Iowa are being served
by programs like mine even as the number of victims needing help continue to surge. Crime victims need
support and there is money available to support them. I’m calling today to ask Gov. Reynolds to immediately
allocate $20 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Fiscal Recovery funds to Iowa’s Crime
Victim Assistance Division (CVAD) to support agencies providing vital services to crime victims. Gov. Reynolds
must seize the rare opportunity ARPA funds provide to address this crisis for victims. I can be reached at [work
phone number or email, if applicable] should Gov. Reynolds or her staff have any questions.
      • SAMPLE EMAIL TO GOVERNOR
I am [name, organization, where you are from]. Our program provides support and services to individuals,
families, and communities impacted by violent crime [where]. Please allocate $20 million in American Rescue
Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Recovery Funds to support crime victim service provider agencies like mine
assisting families impacted by homicide; survivors of domestic and sexual violence; and survivors of human
        trafficking.
      • This year, a catastrophic cut in federal funds to Iowa for crime victim services hit at the same time our budgets
were depleted from the increased costs of providing services during the pandemic, and now, demand for
services is surging. Budget cuts mean fewer staff. We cannot absorb this loss in funds and continue to meet
        the needs of our community.
      • [personalize w specific impact, e.g, what is impact on your job, or on victims (or story of one you serve), or your
program, i.e. fewer victims served, disproportionate impact in your area (rural, underserved) or reduction in
certain services, (housing, transportation, court advocacy, etc.]

Why The Mobile Clothing Closet Matters

The Mobile Clothing Closet will simultaneously address an unmet need for free clothing
resources in the corridor and the high volume of textiles that enter our landfill every year, much of which we will be able to reroute to those in need. We already have two storage sheds full of donated clothing and the vehicle! We just need to cover customization and operating expenses now. For more info on
#CCANClothesCruise, check out this article

We would like to give a huge thank you to our individual donors, our sponsors

We already have two storage sheds full of donated clothing and the vehicle! We just need to cover customization and operating expenses now. Mobile Community Clothing Closet Update

We looked at a motor home over the weekend that we may purchase this week but are still looking at other vehicles and for a reasonably-priced mechanic willing to travel to look at the one under consideration.

Please still let us know if you are aware of any vehicles that would work well for this service, as nothing is yet finalized.

A motorhome would be especially ideal as it would allow us to offer showers and carry cold water and snacks. A donation of a vehicle would mean we could cover customization and first year operating expenses to start service immediately. A great deal on one would put us closer!

Have an idea for a Mobile Closet fundraiser?

We’re also still brainstorming for more ideas for to help us cover the remaining clothing closet expenses. If you or your business are willing to sponsor this project, host a fundraising event for it, or donate an item or service for our auction, please message the page or email director@corridorcan.com.

Mobile Community Clothing Closet Update

Order a Pizza Kit, Donate to the mobile closet

Order a Little Caesars at-home-pizza kit or cookie dough and $6 will go towards establishing a free mobile clothing closet to serve the Corridor!! You can also sign up to help us sell them via email.

Vehicle Update

Mobile Community Clothing Closet Update! We are still looking for a vehicle and also a reasonably-priced mechanic willing to look at a few motor homes that are under consideration. We have not decided on one yet, so please still let us know if you are aware of any vehicles that would work well for this service.

We’re still brainstorming for more ideas for to help us cover the remaining clothing closet expenses. If you or your business are willing to sponsor this project, host a fundraising event for it, or donate an item or service for our auction, please message the page or email director@corridorcan.com.

Why The Mobile Clothing Closet Matters

The Mobile Clothing Closet will simultaneously address an unmet need for free clothing resources in the corridor and the high volume of textiles that enter our landfill every year, much of which we will be able to re-route to those in need. We already have two storage sheds full of donated clothing- we just need the truck!
