All Week
- Together We Achieve in Cedar Rapids need volunteers at the resource center Monday through Saturday
- CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank in Iowa City needs help
- Petition the Iowa Legislature to challenge the reckless law prohibiting schools from adhering to CDC recommendations and requiring masks
- Contact your representatives directly, as well.
- Provide input to “help shape the future of public art in Iowa City”
- EMAIL to urge the Iowa City City Council to enact the changes to the Bias Based Policing Policy recommended by the Iowa City Community Police Review Board.
- This change would refocus police activity on public safety, changing the policy from “patrol in a proactive manner, to investigate suspicious persons and circumstances, and to actively enforce the laws” to “interfere with members of the public only when assistance is requested, or when there is an articulable and imminent risk to public safety”.
- See the full recommendations on pages 91-93
- Watch CPRB debate its passage
- If you prefer news coverage, read the story by KWWL.
- Volunteer with Ronald McDonald House by reaching out to Kailee at volunteercoordinator@rmhc-eiwi.org or 319-356-4417.
- Learn about becoming a Girls on The Run coach. Their fall season starts on September 13th.
- Volunteer to help United Action For Youth’s Young Parent Program organize the Tot Shop, a free “store” that program participants can shop for infant and toddler essentials (approximately 3-4 hours) or by driving items to Stuff, Etc. in Iowa City (approximately 3-4 hours). These one-time volunteer positions can have flexible hours during UAY Eastdale hours of operation 9am-5pm. If you are interested, please contact Kierra.
- Call Honeybee Hair Parlor at (319) 338-5589 to schedule a time to check out their art show. 40% of sales will be donated to Domestic Violence Intervention Program. You can purchase a piece at any time, but please note that pickup won’t be available until after the show ends in mid August.

Help CCAN This Week

Mobile Community Clothing Closet Update
Order a Pizza Kit, Donate to the mobile closet
Order a Little Caesars at-home-pizza kit or cookie dough and $6 will go towards establishing a free mobile clothing closet to serve the Corridor!! You can also sign up to help us sell them via email.
Vehicle Update
We are still looking for a vehicle and also a reasonably-priced mechanic willing to look at a few motor homes that are under consideration. We have not decided on one yet, so please still let us know if you are aware of any vehicles that would work well for this service. A motorhome would be especially ideal as it would allow us to offer showers and carry cold water and snacks. A donation of a vehicle would mean we could cover customization and first year operating expenses to start service immediately. A great deal on one would put us closer!
Have an idea for a Mobile Closet fundraiser?
We’re still brainstorming for more ideas for to help us cover the remaining clothing closet expenses. If you or your business are willing to sponsor this project, host a fundraising event for it, or donate an item or service for our auction, please message the page or email director@corridorcan.com.
Online Auction
Join our Auction Group for the chance to win some great items from local businesses and support our efforts to bring a Free Mobile Clothing Closet to The Corridor! Watch for clothing, tea items, and gift cards to be posted this week!
RayGun Shirt Fundraiser
Don’t forget we now have RayGun Shirts!!! Get your limited edition “DRESS PEOPLE WHERE THEY’RE AT” #CCANClothesCruise shirt.
Why The Mobile Clothing Closet Matters
The Mobile Clothing Closet will simultaneously address an unmet need for free clothing resources in the corridor and the high volume of textiles that enter our landfill every year, much of which we will be able to re-route to those in need. We already have two storage sheds full of donated clothing- we just need the truck!
For more info on #CCANClothesCruise, check out the Englert’s podcast featuring an interview with our director.
